About Me and My Practice

Hey! My name is Praia Westerband-Otero and I am a licensed mental health counselor and AASECT certified sex therapist. I am licensed in New York, New Jersey and Puerto Rico. My practice is fully remote and all sessions are conducted via Doxy.me. I can provide therapy in English, Spanish or Spanglish and prefer a more informal approach to the therapeutic relationship. I believe in empowering the clients I serve and since they are the experts on themselves, I seek to create a collaborative style of therapy. I am known to drop F bombs in session and encourage my clients to speak freely about whatever is on their minds (F bombs optional).

I utilize a person-centered, non-judgmental, non-pathologizing, liberatory, feminist/mujerista, and intersectional approach to therapy. I encourage the clients I serve to customize their sessions to whatever works best for them, which can include the use of homework, bibliotherapy, podcasts, journaling, breathwork, meditation, movement, or ancestral healing practices.

I have an eclectic approach to therapy and often utilize aspects of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Existential Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Attachment Theory, Critical Race Theory, Liberation Psychology, Feminist Therapy, Queer Theory, Multicultural Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Client Centered Therapy while operating under the framework of Mujerista Therapy.
